I've been learning core audio on the iPhone, and when looking through Apple's sample code I found this:

Does anyone know why each function has this :: before the function name? I'm used to objective C and haven't seen this before.

That code looks like C++ and is definitely not C.

The :: token is used in C++ for scope resolution, to specify a member of a class or namespace. Here it's specifying that the functions being defined are member functions of class AQPlayer.

The :: operator is like . (dot) but it is working on a type (struct/class) rather than on an object (instance of that class).

AQPlayer seems to be a class of some kind. To access a method of that class (without actually having an object) you write AQPlayer::MethodName.

While essentially true it doesn't hold in this case. The code is obviously C++ (just look for the constructor and destrcutor implementations), what is happening here is just the definition of a C++ class declared in AQPlayer.h –  Sambatyon Feb 28 '11 at 17:34

Well, I know :: is a scope resolution operator....but that may just be part of the notation.
