I have made two GUI in matlab(R2009).In the 1st GUI i added several menus. By clicking sub menu of 1st GUI it can be obtained 2nd GUI.In 2nd GUI there are list box and check boxes.By clicking on File->open menu in 1st GUI it could be able to import a dataset into the 1st GUI (Dataset in notepad/excel or any format).Here is sample of my dataset.

I have imported the dataset.But it appear as a figure.In that figure it can't be do any modifications.After importing dataset i want to have it in the form of editable.Also i want to display all the variables (eg,sp,sex,FL,Rw...) in the list box in 2nd GUI.Then by selecting relevant variable from list box and checking the check boxes in 2nd GUI it could be able to calculate mean,variance,plot,etc..(mean,variance are the names of check boxes in 2nd GUI) corresponding to the data of selected variable.Still i do not implement any codes for calculating mean,variance etc..in 2nd GUI.

My problem is import any dataset and handle its variables as mentioned above.When i import data categorical variables (sp,sex) and its data appear as NaN.I want to appear the original format.Further by doing several methods it can import dataset in to command from.But i need to import it into GUI.

It is not clear why you posted the code for your GUI, and whether your question is about the reading itself (if you can read data from file, yes or no) or the presentation of the data in the GUI. –  shahar_m Mar 29 '11 at 15:30
