I am stuck on this ClassCastException error for a while now, can anyone help to take a look? I am basically trying to follow the android Device Admin example by extending DeviceAdminReceiver. I basically stripped everything out and just want to test the lockNow() function.

This is my code:

Your LockNow class does not extend any Activity, but a Receiver, so you should declare it that way in your androidManifest.xml. There you have declared both an activity and a receiver for the very same LockNow class.

You must drop the activity declaration:

        <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
    </intent-filter>
</activity> 

Leave the underlying Controller class as main launcher activity, the LockNow class as receiver.

According to Documentation DeviceAdminReceiver is not an Activity and thus it probably shouldn't be defined as one. According to the Example the actual receiver belongs into <receiver> tags.
