Getting some funny bugs here. Is there anything that stands out? Specifically relating to MOC and NSFetchedResultsController. I'm getting some EXC_BAD_ACCESS but not a particular line so its hard to debug.

Thanks guys, I just deleted the code that isn't relevant. I'm just getting a crash EXC BAD ACCESS at if (![managedObjectContext save:&error]). This code is related to the code I have here so there is something going on that I'm trying to pinpoint. stackoverflow.com/questions/5815549/… –  ProgramGuy Apr 28 '11 at 19:57
    
Did you delete your app and reinstalled it? sometimes CoreData gets corrupted. –  Pier-Olivier Thibault Apr 28 '11 at 21:35
    
@Pier, yes I have done the clean, and reset the simulator and deleted and reinstalled but still having problems. –  ProgramGuy Apr 28 '11 at 23:52

If you have an EXEC_BAD_ACCESS you should turn on zombies and rerun your app so you can see what is over released;

Once you know what's over released you will have a much better idea of what is going on.

this bit scares me a bit... you will return a nil MOC, an MOC may never get alloc'd

still doesn't address the issue of alloc'ing a coordinator, if [self persistentStoreCoordinator] is nil. –  Grady Player Apr 29 '11 at 0:37
    
Thanks Grady, I fixed this now. It probably saved me some hassle in the future but unfortunately has not fixed the crashing I am having. I think my best option at this point is to try zombies and see if I can find out whats going on. –  ProgramGuy Apr 29 '11 at 0:47
    
yeah you should just usually have zombies on when developing, with the exception of when you would run up a huge memory footprint, or you are checking for leaks, performance, etc. keep in mind that with zombies on, if you don't get "message sent to deallocated object at"... errors they probably weren't alloc/init'ed in the first place. –  Grady Player Apr 29 '11 at 0:59

You really need to use the self.propertyName reference form everywhere in the code except in the accessors for that specific property.

For example: entered is property but everywhere in the code, even when you set the value you use only the direct access form which retains nothing. E.g,

entered = [(AlertPrompt *)alertView enteredText];

Since alertView is almost certainly returning an autoreleased NSString object, that object will disappear without warning the next time the autorelease pool is drained. You will never know from moment to moment whether entered has a value or not.

You really, really, really need to use:

self.entered = [(AlertPrompt *)alertView enteredText];

... to make sure the value is retained.

When you assign your value to managedObjectContext - try doing either of the following:

managedObjectContext = [[(CurlAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext] retain];

or if your managedObjectContext property has a retain in its definition you can try

self.managedObjectContext = [(CurlAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext];

now getting EXC_BAD_ACCESS error in app's main.m. The problem is either in this class (parent class) or the child class (stackoverflow.com/questions/5815549/…). –  ProgramGuy Apr 28 '11 at 20:12
    
what does your CurlAppDelegate look like. When you create the managedObjectContext in there - do you retain it? Also, are you loading your view before you create the managedObjectContext. loadView is called as soon as .view is referenced on a UIViewController. –  Brian Apr 28 '11 at 20:18

I wonder if the managedObjectContext is maybe getting released out from under you because you're not retaining it?

Try this in your viewDidLoad and see if it makes any difference:
