I have two persistence classes: User.java, Role.java and these are declared in hibernate.cfg.xml. I am using spring. The applicationContext.xml has:

As you can see in HibernateEMSDao.java I am trying to find whether or not the expected database schema exists, otherwise By SchemaHelper.java the database schema will be created. But unfortunately it is not working. I am getting exception:

I think (I may be wrong ;D) that The exception says exactly what is happening.

You define:

<bean id="dataSource" class="info.ems.datasource.DataSourceFactory">

Which is not a datasource and after that you pass it to :

<bean id="sessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.LocalSessionFactoryBean"> <property name="dataSource" ref="dataSource"/>

Where the class casts happen.

thanks. But If I use hibernate mapping-file instead of hibernate annotation and use Configuration instead of AnnotationConfiguration then it is not creating problem. So far I think AnnotationConfiguration needs hibernate.connection.datasource property, which is not set. I don't find hibernate.connection.datasource for HSQLDB. the hibernate properties I have: database.driver=org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver database.url=jdbc:hsqldb:file:${ems.home}/db/ems database.username=sa database.password= hibernate.dialect=org.hibernate.dialect.HSQLDialect hibernate.show_sql=false –  Tapas Bose May 29 '11 at 9:38
