I am trying to create a new node type like this:


but don't understand, how to calculate x3 = x1 + (x2 - x1) /2

Here I tried to do it, but in vain.

You can use the PGF math engine to do your calculation.

% compute x3 --- here is the problem!

\advance\pgf@xc by \pgfmathresult pt

When I use it, I have a "Warning: running in backwards compatibility mode (unsuitable tick labels; missing features). Consider writing \pgfplotsset{compat=1.8} into your preamble". If I do so, I have another problem: "Incomplete \iffalse; all text was ignored after line..." –  Antonin Apr 9 '14 at 20:02
