I wonder how to map single class composite pattern with annotations in Hibernate? An human object can contains children, and each child can have his/her own children. Thank you.

Human domain class:

I don't have the table def because it is generated on the fly. config.setProperty("hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto", "create"); –  janetsmith Jun 9 '11 at 4:10

You definitely need to remove @OneToMany from addChild method. It does not add anything but may be throwing off Hibernate. Try it and post results.


Update. Here is why it fails. You set @Id on parent field. That forces Hibernate to look at all fields for mappings instead on properties specified via getters/setters. Consequently, it ignores your @JoinColumn annotation and treats parent field as a mapping to column with default name parent.

Move your all annotations to either getters or fields and it should solve the problem with incorrect mapping of column name.
