I'm trying to get bind a textbox text property to an observable collection, and report changes back to the collection. The ContactLog property gets set from the calling page.
This is what I have, but it doesn't work.

Whats the right way to bind this?

Ok, learning how to properly use DataContext, this appears to work, and it's two way, so bonus.

It's written in visual studio... I'll leave it out in the future. So I should just use vb.net tag? Are tag use rules spelled out anywhere so I don't make other mistakes? –  AndyD273 Jun 15 '11 at 20:35
    
They aren't any such rules as far as i know, just think about whether the tag has any relevance for the question. Here that is not the case, if for example the VS designer were to fail and the question is about how to fix that then the tag would be justified. –  H.B. Jun 15 '11 at 20:52

You have set your DataContext to the string "ContactLog". This is probably not what you want - you should create and set your DataContext in code, probably in the constructor.

I don't have a problem doing it that way, and this code doesn't work anyway. I've been able to use ItemSource to bind textboxes to observablecollections in listview, itemscontrol, etc, but doing it straight to a textbox without using one of those containers is new. How should I do it right? –  AndyD273 Jun 15 '11 at 20:40
    
What exactly do you expect/want? How should the application know how tp turn an ObservableCollection into text? –  H.B. Jun 15 '11 at 20:54

Ok, figured out what you meant with the Datacontext in code behind. Wonder why you can't do it in XAML? Not that it's a big deal, just interesting. –  AndyD273 Jun 16 '11 at 15:34
