I am using Visual Studio express 2008 and Mysql server 5.5. My c++ application using the c++ Mysql connector needs to connect to a Music Database and access songs and their tags.
Anyways, what I am doing is that, I'v made a DBconnection class and the contructor opens up a connection for every instance. As soon as in my application I'm finished running a Query, I am making sure that the connection closes.
The songs are in thousands so making a new connection means making 1000's of connections (and closing them ofcourse!). If I do it at the start of my program (get all songs and tags), and save all the data in internal memory, making and closing 1000's of connections, there is no problem.
However if I access the Database on "need" bases (the number of connections/disconnections are exactly the same, but are minutes apart during execution), the Mysql server throws an exception " Can't connect to Mysql server on "Address") after a few minutes. "Address" is a "const static string".
If I only use 50 songs, there are no problems. But when it comes to 100's or 1000's of songs I am getting the above mentioned probelm. The big 0 = (number of songs)^3 - execution time. One solution is "singleton" albeit a bad one (in my opinion), but it will do the job !
Any suggestions please?.
