I dont know why, but i am unable to get the GPS Position... lm.getLastKnownLocation always returns null and onLocationChanged is never called. But i can see the gps icon on my system tray.

any ideas?

Just checking - do you have these permissions in you manifest? <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" /> –  CaspNZ Jun 30 '11 at 20:50
    
i am using ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION but i dont think i need ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION because i am using the gps. i tried it with it anyway but it didnt work )-: –  nomoral Jun 30 '11 at 21:00

if you are trying on the emulator, you have to send fake location through the "Emulator Control" ( on Eclipse, it does not exist on IntelliJ ) –  louiscoquio Jun 30 '11 at 21:14

You need to add

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />

to use the GPS. To use network location, use:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />

I think this will work for you.

If you don't have ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION enabled in your manifest, you cannot get GPS location updates. I don't know the connection between the icon and LocationManager calls, but the connection between the manifest entry and ability to use location is clear. –  CaspNZ Jun 30 '11 at 21:42
