I have a very peculiar problem. My code ran properly for one time, then I closed my terminal in linux and opened it again to run the code, but now I am getting segmentation fault. not able to decipher what happened exactly...Any help would be appreciated.

Please run your program in a debugger and tell us where exactly it crashes. Post the stack trace too. –  Codo Aug 14 '11 at 20:43
    
the thing is I am running it on a remote linux machine. This same code ran once perfectly and i closed the terminal and now I am trying to run it, it says segmentation fault. –  user537670 Aug 14 '11 at 20:46
    
@user537670: "The thing is" you debug segmentation faults with a debugger, such as GDB, which can be run remotely. See where it crashes, and use "backtrace" to see how it got there. –  Yann Ramin Aug 14 '11 at 20:49

I don't really feel like posting in answer but there is something I would like to give a big shoutout.

First off,please learn to use gdb.It is pretty much handy way to look into what's behind the scene.Add -g option when you compile gcc -o ex ex.c -g.Invoke gdb ./ex if the compilation is successful.Then in the gdb command interface you type run [-all sorts of arguments and options you have initially set up in your program] and gdb will reveal processes/threads calls and everything you need.Easy breezy.

Second,in your code,apparently you allocate memory in an incorrect fashion.That's what we have in the man page:

 void *calloc(size_t nmemb, size_t size);

see,in your case,you have to do it like header_imgonnause = (header*)malloc(sizeof(header)*memoryiwannahave).

Third,probably the last one,in terms of segmentation fault in this code,have you looked into your accept() read() and write()?If there is a broken pipe in connection,bash will prompt you seg fault.If using gdb,you'll know if that is the case.

All in all,use gdb/valgrind.
