I'm trying to compile ICU v4.8.1 with Alchemy, but am running into an LLVM problem:

What kind of code leads to this problem in the linker? It seems to have something to do with casting ("left-hand-side-cast != right-hand-side-cast"). I'm not above modifying the ICU code to make it compile, but I'm not sure what to modify.

Could be any number of things. The likely cause is bad llvm IR being fed into the linker. Your best bet is to talk to the Alchemy guys and see what they're doing and get them to debug it.

This is a crash in llvm-ld, not Alchemy. Alchemy's code doesn't come into play until after llvm-ld is finished. –  paleozogt Aug 29 '11 at 16:05

Your best bet then is to file a bug at with a reproducible test case so we can take a look at it. Which version of llvm-gcc are you using and which host/target? –  echristo Sep 14 '11 at 9:21
Alchemy's llvm is pretty old: v2.1. Unfortunately, it's not possible to upgrade as the backend that converts IR into AVM2 bytecode is closed-source and depends on this specific version's IR format. While I would be keen on patching v2.1 to fix this problem, I would need some help from the llvm community. I guess I'll file a bug and see where it goes... –  paleozogt Sep 14 '11 at 14:42
