We have an application used to run on Centos very well and now we want to migrate it to AIX. During the test on Aix, we found the cpu scaling of the system is quite disappointing. With 8 cores and erlang SMP-auto, we did a benchmark on crypto and other linked-in drivers and we found there were very high system cpu consumption and lots of thread_wait_lock call in the truss(strace) log, which would not appear on centos under the same test scenario. And the sys call will disappear when we turn SMP off.
Finally, we found it's relative with the MALLOCOPTIONS setting on AIX, which is one heap per process by default. That means the malloc operations in drivers will be serialized to the only heap and that will cause lots of thread_wait_lock.
You can set MALLOCOPTIONS to be multiheap but the max size is restricted to be 32 by AIX.
