I want to use the OpenGL library, GLFW, to render a window but also want to use WinAPi to create controls and handle events. Is there any way to do this ? I tried searching(googling) for "using glfw and winapi" but that did no yield any results. The only page I found that did what I wanted was this but the page seems to be outdated as GLFW_WINPAR doesn't exist. Is there any way to do what I want, or do I have to use "Vanilla" OpenGL.

There's not much benefit in using GLFW if you intend to use the native Win32 API as well. The whole point of GLFW is hiding the system APIs below.

Creating a OpenGL window using the Win32 alone not that hard at all:

You may want to update that to use at least wglChoosePixelFormatARB, if not wglCreateContextAttribsARB. Without the former, you can't even get multisampling, and without the latter, you can't get a core context. –  Nicol Bolas Sep 20 '11 at 18:43

@viraj: You could draw them using OpenGL. There are a number of OpenGL based GUI libraries. One example for a complex application that draws it entire GUI using OpenGL is Blender, however the GUI system is deeply integrated into it, i.e. no independent library. But it's worth a look for reference. –  datenwolf Sep 21 '11 at 7:11
    
@viraj: The bigger question however is: Why do you want to use the native, arcane Win32 API at all? As long as you're not developing a toolkit I see no reason for this. Why not simply use a mature, modern, widespread toolkit with OpenGL support, like Qt? –  datenwolf Sep 21 '11 at 7:17
