Prime factors generation C++

I realize that this is a pretty common question, but I want to know what I've been doing wrong and how can I fix it. Project Eular's Prime Factorization Question has been bugging me.

Here is what I have so far:

I tried taking the sieve approach to calculate the factors as well. All the non factors are assigned 0. ArrayComp displays the numbers if they are both factors of the input and also prime.

The problem I'm having is the output is not complete and the programs runs into a segmentation fault. For example, factors for 10 are 5 and 2, but it shows the same answer for 100.

I appreciate any help. :)

EDIT: Another thing I'm not too confident of is the size of the array, perhaps? This program shows 3 as the prime factor of 21 and not 7, but if I increase the size by 1, it shows 3 and 5(incorrect)

@Toomai: not really sure, as I'm not an expert in debugging. But when I tried to debug it in code::blocks, the seg fault occurs when I put thr breakpoint at the return statement.(I had to continue line by line, and out of the blue it produced a message saying it's a segmentation fault.) –  Manish Gill Oct 17 '11 at 16:11
The reason that for `21` you only find `3` is that you're only testing up to `sqrt(21)`... For every factor `m` of a number `N`, `N/m` is also a factor (though not necessarily prime). –  Ben Voigt Oct 17 '11 at 18:45

The prime factors of 100 are the same as the prime factors of 10, only the multiplicity is different.

It appears that your representation doesn't have any way to store repeated factors.

any chance you could help with the memory thing? I'm getting all runtime errors when I input a number that is tool large. Sometimes like this: "Application has requested the runtime to be terminated in an unusual way" I'm thinking this is because I'm trying to allocate an array of very large size? @ManishGill: In `gen_primes`, `for(uint_64 j=i;j*i<=lastElement;j++)` needs to compare to `size`, not `lastElement`. Right now you're writing waaaaaaaay past the end of the array. –  Ben Voigt Oct 17 '11 at 18:58
