I tried to serialize Transaction like this:

I don't understanding why get is returning DoesNotExists on Branch. I showed an example above which shows that Branch has a record in Transaction.

Looping through t I get a result, but then followed by DoesNotExist: Branch matching query does not exist

This query:

Transaction.objects.get(branch_name='WAREHOUSE ROAD')

filters for branch_name which is a ForeignKey field. To query on that name, you should use two underscores:

Transaction.objects.get(branch_name__name_branch='WAREHOUSE ROAD')

Not the most convenient names for your fields...

Thanks for this. It moves me closer one step. But the real help is required on t = Transaction.objects.filter(paid=True). Branch is part of the results of 't'. I'm not calling Transaction.objects.get(branch_name='WAREHOUSE ROAD') directly in code. I just used it as a test to find out what get returns. Can you help with why serializers.serialize('csv', t) where t = Transaction.objects.filter(paid=True) is giving DoesNotExist: Branch matching query does not exist. My answer doesn't solve that issue then: it seems that your Transaction object is pointing to a Branch that doesn't exist (anymore). What does t.branch_name give you? –  jro Oct 20 '11 at 14:16

Sorry, I moved my comment :). I also posted the wrong request, as your t objects is of course a QuerySet. Anyway, I still think there is a Transaction in that QuerySet that points to an invalid branch. To check which, try this:for i in t:\nprint t.branch_name (with the proper formatting of course. If you catch the exception you can probably debug it to find the erroneous Transaction object. –  jro Oct 20 '11 at 14:24
    
I have edited the post to reflect the loop. Shows it is not an invalid branch and the exception is the same. –  drecute Oct 20 '11 at 14:38
