I run the code example below with GC.KeepAlive() on and commented out, but it is the same. How to code so I can see the difference.

Are you running in Debug mode, and/or with the debugger attached? The GC is much less aggressive when debugging, keeping objects hanging around for longer. Try compiling in Release mode and running without the debugger attached (Ctrl+F5 in Visual Studio). – LukeH Nov 8 '11 at 23:21

GC.KeepAlive(hr); 

Is by itself a reference (later in the code) ...

So hr can't be collected at the point(s) where you cal GC.Collect().

What exactly did you expect to happen?
