# How to implement a 16 bit CRC check in C? [closed]

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of how to calculate an 16 bit crc in C. I'm no programming wizard so I'm having a hard time finding source code that is easy to read and implement.

Here is the polynomial: x^16 + x^10 + x^8 + x^7 + x^3 + 1

Here is what the program must do

• A function for converting hexadecimal string into binary string (I can do this)

• A function for converting binary to hexadecimal (and this)

• A function to validate the input (this too)

An XOR function that takes as input two binary strings and returns the XOR result.

A function for CRC calculation

A function for CRC verification

The last three options I have no idea how to write up. Any help on the subject?

You are aware of the `^` operator in c, yes? And you have a description of the CRC method works, right? So go to it. –  dmckee Nov 20 '11 at 18:00
