I have a lot of such threads in a jetty app I am running. I was wondering how I could debug whats going wrong.

why do you think things go wrong? It seems like you have a lots of thread that has nothing to do (waiting for an incoming request) –  Peter Szanto Nov 30 '11 at 21:04

Don't worry , it seems that most of the threads are just waiting, they will become busy when requests arrive to your Jetty server.

Most web servers keep a thread pool of a certain size, to not create/delete thread objects every time.

So check your Jetty configuration to see the configured size of your thread pool, and compare with the number of waiting threads.
