I have 2 classes which get saved in the google datastore. class product which contains an arraylist of productdetails. now i have a hard time getting the arraylist returned back to me. class product is detachable and when i try to acces the arraylist inside the object i get the error:

You have just attempted to access field "productDetailsArray" yet this field was not detached when you detached the object. Either dont access this field, or detach it when detaching the object.

Can anyone explain how I can also detach the arraylist from the google datastore?

the 2 classes im using are

the methode i'm using is in de DAO implementation to return the objects with there arraylist is.

Why not just follow the advice of that message ? Put the field in the fetch group if you want to detach it. Docs for DataNucleus tell clearly enough how to do that

I'm using spring's OpenEntityManagerInViewFilter so I'm not expecting the object to be detached when retrieved and accessed in for the same web request. Eager and fetch groups are an option, but I'm curious why I should need to. My guess is this was introduced when I changed a configuration setting for another error. –  s_t_e_v_e May 31 '12 at 15:54
I didn't have the field annotated for example with ManyToOne. Or Transient and separate Key field in my case for single parent limitation in GAE –  s_t_e_v_e May 31 '12 at 16:19
