I have compiled the levenshtein extension for Mysql 5.1.49, placed the levenshtein.so inside /usr/lib/mysql/plugin, but when I try to install it:

CREATE FUNCTION levenshtein RETURNS INT SONAME 'levenshtein.so';

It gives back the error:

ERROR 1125 (HY000): Function 'levenshtein' already exists

The problem is, that afaik, there is no levenshtein function. I dumped the whole database with mysqldump -R -d --all-databases

There was no levenshtein function.

Checked with show function status. It gave back an empty result set.

So, what is missing here? Mysql went nuts or I overlooked something?

Btw, if I rename the levenshtein function to levenshteinx and recompile, it works like charm.

In case you haven't tried, could you run a SELECT * FROM information_schema.routines WHERE routine_name = 'levenshtein' OR specific_name = 'levenshtein'; ? I mean, if you've ever tried to delete it then recreate it before it might happen that it didn't get removed completely. I know it's weird and might not be the case for you -- It's just that it happened to me before, and I had to also check which database it existed in. If a record is returned, routine_schema column will help.. Again, this is just to check.. My experience may very well be a 1 in a million kind.. –  Nonym Dec 29 '11 at 16:30
Thanks, I tried, byt the ROUTINES table is total empty, doesnt even show the newly added levenshteinx function, but it exists and works :O. –  Jauzsika Dec 29 '11 at 16:44
