I have a simulator(running properly) with many .cpp files. I wish to port a part of the computation on the GPU and hence I need to change one .cpp file to .cu file (which contains the kernel function and the routine invoking the kernel). Hence I need to change the "makefile" accordingly. I tried to do that and successfully compiled the code. But while executing the cuda related codes (i.e cudaMemcpy, kernel invoke , ..) DO NO RUN AT ALL. This seems strange to me as if these lines of code seem to disappear while execution. I suspect this problem to be a linking problem while compiling although I may be wrong.

Please help me with the makefile:

I am using -arch=sm_20 flag as I am using double precision in GPU. All I needed was: change "nec_radiation_pattern.cpp" to "nec_radiation_pattern.cu". I made those changes, I thought necessary to accomplish only this task.

It would seem very unlikely that this is a linking problem. Can you add the output of ldd nec2cpp to your question? –  talonmies Jan 10 '12 at 8:41
    
Are you running this on hardware with compute capability >= 1.3? If not, double precision mathematics will be unavailable, possibly leading to the behavior described. –  Liam M Jan 10 '12 at 8:43
    
The hardware has the double precision compute capability. To test it I used a test_kernel.cu file containing double calculations on GPU. When compiled solely and executed it produced correct results. However when I appended the same code to my nec_radiation_pattern.cu file, the output was wrong. Output: the output is exactly same as the output of a piece of code with all cuda related lines commented out. –  Aniruddha Basak Jan 10 '12 at 8:48
