I keep on getting the following error everytime i try to create a new transaction after i have backed up my database using SMO (Sql Server Management Objects):

New transaction is not allowed because there are other threads running in the session.

I have created a little console app that demonstrates the problem:

Have you tried letting the select wait for a while? A quick searhc hasn't revealed information to substantiate my hunch, but I'm guessing your NoLogTruncation is affecting this. Can you try to give it a minute or two and see if that changes your result? If it does, there'll be something to work on. –  user806549 Jan 23 '12 at 10:31
    
Cheers, changed the code to truncate the log and it worked fine. I saw somewhere a reason as why not to truncate the log. Something along the lines if you just want a copy-only backup. –  rawajames Feb 14 '12 at 11:08

You could try to enable MARS on connection (msdn about MARS) In connection string should be: "MultipleActiveResultSets=true;"

As stated by Anders UP turned out it was the NoLogTruncation was affecting it.
