Smallest = from node 0 to destination;

I want to find the nearest node in the map, using geopoint I was able to find the distances from each geopoint to the other. My problem, what If the number of nodes is 1000. It would take time for the system to compute the nearest. By the way I implemented this to android. Are there any alternatives that will avoid the traversing of all the nodes, and efficiently find the nearest node (geopoint) without discovering each one of them? There are some suggestion about using a radius, for example given a geopoint will expand its radius to find the nearest node.

Can you share your ideas? thank you.
