I am trying to write a simple scraping programing for an academic project using BeautifulSoup and Mechanize in Python. I am trying to get the prices of some products off of Amazon because I would like to test various theories on their pricing models. The problem I am running into is that BeautifulSoup randomly does not take the whole page of HTML from Mechanize. I have printed to a text file the times that there is an error and every time the Mechanize page is fully formed, however the BeautifulSoup page is only half there. Here is my code:

Maybe if we had the implementation of get_mech_page and a url that demonstrates the problem someone would give this a try. –  hughdbrown Feb 4 '12 at 14:35
    
Alternatively, could you print mech_page and bs_page, and compare them to the raw HTML returned using urllib2.urlopen(url).read() ? –  Alex L Feb 4 '12 at 14:42

I did this:

        mech_page = get_mech_page(url)
        bs_page = BeautifulSoup(unicode(mech_page.response().read(), 'latin-1'))
        if not test_page(bs_page):
            print "Error in page, redownloading"
            log(unicode(bs_page))
            log(unicode(mech_page.response().read(), 'latin-1'))
            continue
        else:
            break
    return mech_page, bs_page

def get_mech_page(url):
    br = mechanize.Browser()
    br.open(url)
    return br

def test_page(bs_page):
    return True

if __name__ == '__main__':
    print get_page_mech_bs("http://google.com")

I have no idea how test_page is written. I break from the loop when test_page is True. And the html I get from BeautifulSoup looks right. What's the problem?
