I've seen posts explaining why emulator is slow. I would settle slow. My emulator is not going anywhere.

I have Ubuntu 11.10 Linux, running on AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840 Processor with 8Gb memory Emulator starts relatively fast. But after that it is not responsive. For example If I click on Apps button, half of the screen will load, application icons would not click at all. (Being a new user, I'm not allowed to upload picture, but it shows 1 row of icons and half of the 2nd row of icons).

Some things work though, like search box. It actually opens browser and displays. search results pretty fast.

Is it some sort of graphics (or other) configuration problem? Anybody there running this successfully?

It won't help a lot, but try increasing RAM size from 256 to 1024 –  Rotemmiz Feb 8 '12 at 6:23

I have a similar system, though w/ 16 GB of ram. Same deal, virtually dead on arivial. I'm assuming its from honeycomb being hardware accelerated and trying to software emulate a 1200x800 screen. All while doing the ARM to intel emulation. I know its not much help, but I had to buy a tablet to do my testing. –  Nick Campion Feb 8 '12 at 6:26
    
Try reducing your screen pixel size to the smallest value that you can. The Ice Cream Sandwich emulator runs somewhat tolerably on my laptop at 480x800. –  Sparky Feb 8 '12 at 6:40
    
Yup, I found I could set up an emulator instance with Android 3.0 or 4.0, but not 3.1 or 3.2. –  Lawrence D'Oliveiro Feb 8 '12 at 8:30
