# Alpha Beta Pruning implementation upon MinMax in Tic Tac Toe

Initial calls: MinMax: minmax(myBoard, 9) - which gives a number -1/0/1 (lose/draw/win for current player. Alpha-Beta: alphabeta(myBoard, 9, int.MinValue + 1, int.MaxValue - 1, "X")

I started thinking to make alpha-beta pruning because because MinMax was slow when the game expanded to 5by5 instead of 3by3 and the problem is that on a 3by3 board minmax gives the right value when alpha beta gives a wrong one and I was wondering where in my code is the mistake. As example at the start of the game when X chooses first MinMax says that the game is a draw and Alpha-Beta says O is going to lose which isn't right.

Your alpha-beta implementation doesn't look like alpha-beta to me, where have you found it? I think your minimax is correct and a version of the negamax framework – maybe you should name it negamax to avoid misunderstandings. –  Christian Ammer Feb 13 '12 at 20:10
