I'm trying to compile a simple calculator example that I found in the internet for my embedded environment, but I'm having a few difficulties regarding dependencies with flex/bison.

My test files are these:

When I try to compile it with my compiler, I get an error about EINTR not being found. There is no EINTR in my errno.h header (from my compiler's toolchain).

Is there some options do make flex/bison more lightweight and depend less on POSIX stuff?

If your platform will never return an EINTR errno, can you solve this simply by a #define EINTR 999? –  sarnold Feb 14 '12 at 22:48

In short: No. flex will reference EINTR in all C scanners. So you basically have three choices (in descending order):

  1. Fix your compiler. Which one doesn't define EINTR?
  2. Define your own YY_INPUT in a %top block.
  3. Define a dummy EINTR; 0 or INT_MAX are probably good choices for this specific application but redefining standard macros can always have funny side-effects.

Looks like 'No' is the right answer. I defined EINTR myself, but got a ton of other errors about non-ANSI stuff (like unistd.h and such) and gave up. I'm currently using Ragel. It looks more adequate to embedded development. –  haole Feb 17 '12 at 18:04
    
@haole flex has an option nounistd. If there are other showstoppers, I'd be interested in hearing them - flex certainly doesn't want to impede more than necessary its use in non-standard environments :-). On the other hand, if Ragel serves your needs, you might be better suited there. –  Tim Landscheidt Feb 17 '12 at 22:25
