I have the above service in android. Some times i get the uncaught exception and my service stops.My execution thread goes into UnCaughtExceptionHandler. There i try to restart the service but it is not working. Can anybody please help me in this matter.

You can use START_STICKY to restart the Service if your Serice is killed. Just you are to return START_STICKY in your onStartCommand(Intent, int, int)

public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {

   //your stuff   
   return Service.START_STICKY;
}

If you are passing some Intent to your Service and it gets killed you can back the Intent you can use the flag as START_REDELIVER_INTENT

to restart any service which is terminated at run time then use Service.START_STICKY

Actually i found out that on uncaught exception, my service was not killed. When i checked it , i found it alive. My timer was killed. So , on uncaught exception i restarted my timer. Anyways, thanks a lot guys for your valuable suggestions. It added my knowledge. :) –  user874437 Feb 17 '12 at 10:14

use this method in your service class
@Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
return Service.START_STICKY;
}


to make it behave you want.
