And so I decided to write a script to install Sams, the first part of installing the main application is written, but there was a problem with the connection to the database MySQL in the installation instructions have the following code:

1. mysql -u root -p (need pass MySQL)
2. GRANT ALL ON squidctrl.* TO sams@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "yourpassword";
3. GRANT ALL ON squidlog.* TO sams@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "yourpassword"; (yourpassword – any wish pass)

Since users have helped to lay out why once I finished the script, who can come in handy.

#connect to the database mysql
user=raw_input('Mysql username -> ')
password=raw_input('Mysql password -> ')
db=MySQLdb.Connect(host="localhost", user=user, passwd=password)
pass_sams=raw_input("chose password for sams user -> ")
cursor.execute('GRANT ALL ON squidctrl.* TO sams@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "%s";' % pass_sams)
cursor.execute('GRANT ALL ON squidlog.* TO sams@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "%s";' % pass_sams)

If you need interaction with started program use subprocess module. But in this case better thing is just use some of database librarys. –  Adam Mar 9 '12 at 13:18

If you're going to access MySQL from Python, you should not be doing it through os.system.

Actually, you shouldn't be calling subprocesses with os.system, that what the subprocess module was designed for. (And you would be able to communicate with your subprocess then).

What you should actually be doing is using the MySQLdb module (you should be able to install it through the python-mysqldb packet using apt). Here's how you'd use it:

import MySQLdb
db = MySQLdb.connect(username='sams', password='yourpassword', db='mydb')
cursor = db.cusor()
cursor.execute('YOUR SQL GOES HERE')
data = cursor.fetchall() #Or cursor.fetchone() for a single row.

Now, you might want to consider using the alternative OurSQL, or even using an ORM, such as SQL Alchemy.

I'm sorry, but I don't really get what you mean. MySQLdb is pretty straightfoward: you connect to the database, grab and cursor and then execute your SQL. –  Thomas Orozco Mar 9 '12 at 13:15

when i open terminal in linux i enter this mysql -u root -p, i enter the password from mysql and the system lets me inside "SQL>" where i enter the next strings this "GRANT ALL ON squidctrl.* TO sams@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "yourpassword";" and this "GRANT ALL ON squidlog.* TO sams@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "yourpassword";"....and after that my configurations ends and it's work. But i want to write this operation on Python, My knowledge is very weak Python. I know that i have to import mysqldb library i did it, but how to write the syntax, I do not know... –  user1259251 Mar 9 '12 at 13:48

there's a bunch of websites online that can help you learn this library. also, this is the official repository of the project. there's no point in calling system commands, when you have a nice interface, well documented, that can help you do everything pythonwise

Maybe you want to look this: http://docs.sqlalchemy.org/en/latest/dialects/mysql.html

Sqlalchemy is an ORM and simplifies a lot the work with the database, furthermore if in a future you want to change from MySQL to PostgreSQL engine, it's quite simple, and you don't need to rewrite any code.
