I have MyCollection of MyPOCO object (that has two string properties).

When I try to implement a HierarchicalDataTemplate into a treeview the binding is not working, I get the class name.

I know that if i take out the datatemplate from the control everything works fine but i am interested to see why this example is not working.

So what am I doing wrong?

AGAIN ... I am interested in this particular example. I want to know what's wrong with this example and why.

The code you posted is not hierarchical, In other words: The MyPOCO Class is not containing a property MyCollection<MYPOCO> Children. Here is an example for the HierarchicalDataTemplate

Xaml:

The thought was that based on whatever comes back from the WebService I should be able to show it in the TreeView. Imagine when you have only a couple directories in your root. Because the same code works when I use templates I really doubt that I have to create the object structure as you were mentioning. The problem I think comes from the control and the way it attaches a template resource vs inline template specified within the control. Thanks for your reply. –  asuciu Mar 15 '12 at 1:46
    
But if the code is not hierarchial it will not work in such a HierarchicalDataTemplate. Try making it hierarchical even if you do not populate any children. Otherwise you should use the DataTemplate, which is for non-hierarchical data. –  Silvermind Mar 15 '12 at 11:33
