If I adopt way 3, wouldn't tbb hold a lock on the object until I explicitly release it or the thread dies?

Thanks for the tips.. I have tried changing the hash table definition to boost::unordered_map<char*,char*> MAP and computed the time taken. I have not noticed any change in the overall time taken. Do I need to specify any buffer size to the fopen method?

@WesleyBland This is exactly what I discovered. Everyone needs to call createCommunicator. Is there a way to create a new communicator without involving everyone? Ideally, is there a way for one process to create the new communicator?

I have an iterative function that first produces the minimum set of items i.e. {t1}. The given {t1} it produces all sets of size 2 i.e. {t1,t2} and {t1,t3}. Finally, it just produces the superset which is {t1,t2,t3}.
