@strubbly I do have a SolidWorks model but I don't think there is a way to use the information. All: next I think I will try selecting a few point along some of the curves of interest and then iteratively get their nearest neighbors and add points such that the area of the hull is greater, or move on if it's smaller or not convex. I would use the add_points() method from scipy's ConvexHull

How is data_set_00 defined? If it is like data_set_01, which is already a list, then there is no need to use the list() function. Also, I don't see you using data anywhere in your loop. It would appear that you should pick a different loop variable at the very least.

I appreciate your answer, I'll continue reading up as I try to apply this to my problem. I will have to some sort of scaling as the analysis points density decreases significantly in the top of the picture of the analysis data. But I understand the idea you illustrated using the house example. Thanks!

Prune, I have read this several times while investigating SVMs: For many estimators, including the SVMs, having datasets with unit standard deviation for each feature is important to get good prediction. Does this make sense to you? Since I'm only looking for indices of points in voids, should I scale my axes to provide unit sd... along individual axes or of the 3d point set?

The general, non-technical description would be this: I have to use this data in another program. If the values inside the voids aren't zero, the other software program will produce bad results.
