I'm looking for entry-points to get started on exactly what you're describing. I.e., what do I need to start learning in order to move towards this goal? I'm totally fine with generalities, I just want to know where to start studying so I can find my way to this goal. Pain and/or difficulty is not at all an obstacle. I appreciate leads to other options (such as pthreads w32 and APR) and advice (such as "pthreads 32 is more than adequate"), but they're not ultimately what I'm looking for.
