Then increase the number of latent factor and try to rate more movies at the beginning. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with what you get. You only use items and users id so the recommendation is somehow limited. Others methods can use the additional information and improve the recommendation (like using the genre of the movie or the date it was released). I guess you hit the limit of Matrix Factorization here and there is nothing you can really change (outside increasing the number of latent factor and rating more movies).

@Thorsten In the case where you have in let's say: C1=[0,1,2], C2=[4,5,6], C3=[9,10,11], your solution doesn't work. The column indices are important
