Yap. normalizedInput = (input + 1000) / 2000; output = normalizedOutput * 2000 - 1000.

Percentages (0-1), but matter of implementation anyway. Easily convert output from 0..1 to -1..1 by output = output*2-1. I more often find myself working with percentages under the hood, (0..1) then convert it to any kind of output.

You may create a pass that writes the Z-buffer of the RenderTexture before actual rendering, then ZTests will probably done automatically.

Once you added that line, the depth texture gets "advertised" globally all over the shaders, accessible through _CameraDepthTexture.

Yap, I know. Just people say: "Don't calculate UVs in the fragment shader, if you want optimized texture reads." (see Apple link above). Thatswhy I wanted to put this up to vertex shader.
