That doesn't sound correct. Those little gyros measure rotation rate about an axis fixed to the phone (not to the earth). Not sure if they process that and provide an API for some higher level data.

This answer is correct in the use of a quadtree, but you will gain much insight from reading about k-D trees and the nearest neighbor search. You need the quadtree because it's easy to update incrementally, but the query for who'se close probably has more documentation refering to k-D trees, but it can be adapter to quadtrees.

From the Zen of Python: Explicit is better than implicit. Simple is better than complex. Flat is better than nested. Sparse is better than dense. If the implementation is hard to explain, it's a bad idea.

What Joni said. The cross product of two normalized vectors is this sin() of the angle. It is signed and will change if you do UxV or VxU.

Depending on what the loop does - in particular if you call a function with the variable-length item - the compiler probably won't know if it changes. If it DOES know length doesn't change it can also unroll the loop for better performance.

Not quite. Accessing 1 value will be the same. If you access another 32-bit value that is in the same cache line it will already be there - you even state this with "subsequent...". Using smaller data sizes is generally more cache friendly due to loading more data elements per cache line.
