Another encoding would be to let the GA chromosome to be of variable length. one chromosome consists of multiple courses, where one course is represented (courseID, who, when), where when can take on all possible times and when can take on all possible teacher ids. But in this case what if I get courses duplicates in one chromosome? how do I deal with that?

Thank you @onABauer for your answer. From your experience with GA can you give me some suggestions on the second part of my question? if I represent one course as (when,who) how do I encode that this course should not be offered? if when can take on all possible times + 0 which means at no time. and when can take on all possible teacher ids + 0 which means no one. Then (0,0) means that this course should no be offered. But what if I get (0,3) or (9,0) for instance, should I consider these to be the same as (0,0)? meaning the course should not be offered.

@u8sand actually they are not separate processes. Is using a separate thread recommended as the loop will be executed hundreds to thousands number of times? is not expensive to create a new thread each iteration?
