BTW, in this case, both _mm256_permute_pd and _mm256_shuffle_pd compiles into vunpcklpd/vunpckhpd

Thanks PaulR. I didn't realize _mm256_broadcast_pd() can load from memory too (I thought it can only read from an XMM register)

Regarding your edit: A type cast is needed (at least on gcc-4.8.2). i.e. this works: __m256d b0101 = _mm256_broadcast_pd((__m128d*)&b[4*k]);

Thanks. This works perfectly on gcc-4.8.2, but gcc-4.4.7 complains that in _mm256_permute_pd() "the last argument must be a 4-bit immediate". Changing 0xff to 0xf fixes that.

Thank you both. Currently this slightly slow down my code, but it does reduce the number of loads to 1/4. This method will be invaluable when I'm constrained by loads.
