what is wrong with your solution ? Perhaps you can use one agents who supervises work to do, and lots of agents that request work. The workers get a directory to explore then get the files in coresponding directory, then they post back the results to a supervisor ( not necessarily the same as the first) and posts the subdirectories to explore to the work supervisor

so Microsoft.FSharp.Reflection.FSharpType.GetUnionCases(typeof<Interests>) returns a seq of UnionCaseInfo, from which I cant seem to get a seq of Interests

@Carlo V. Dango, @SplashHit when working with option type you have very convinient methods Option.Map and Option.bind, plus it forces you to deal with the None and reason about it. Also you can easily extended your code in a safe way, in case you want to have more outcomes than the binary Some (somthing) or None (nothing).

Fork Join is a big black box for me (any ref would be great, note I did google it but no great details). So I don't really know. I am using this to download profile info from facebook. For each user I have to get his Music, Books and other Interests. For each user I wanted to group the download of each Category with Async.Parallel, and then run Async.Parallel over all the users I want to get data for. Thanks
