Just an fyi, with numpy it's perhaps best not to use the term matrix to describe a 2D arrray, as numpy also has a matrix class.

You're also using exceptions in a nasty way, they are for "exceptional circumstances" - so here you should just return False and then deal with that if it happens. Ideally, the actual logging of the fuel amount would raise the relevant exception - if you have access to that.

A few comments about this in general, a.) you've spelt litre wrong in your code - which at best will just be an annoyance for anyone reading, but could lead to other people adding to the code and then you have liter in some places and litre in others. Incorrectly spelt variable names are a nuisance. and b.) you are declaring two variables and then never using them. Why?

Is there a reason your bingo cards rows always contain numbers in successive powers of ten, rather than just a set of random numbers? I realise it won't make much difference to the distribution of the numbers, it's just am aesthetic thing.

Is that the correct way to load json? Other very similar questions load the json by doing json.load(open("tree.txt")) and then operate on the result of that. You are creating a new json object (d) for each line of the file.

Aah yes, didn't think to double the transaction fee. It's still a much easier answer than one requiring path of doing or any other complex algo.

Yah sorry, I missed that part out. I talk about it in the comments below. You just need to remove the combinations of sell/buy at adjacent indices if the difference is less than the transaction cost.

No, i'm saying you split the list into runs, and then any run with a difference of greater than the transaction cost gives you a beneficial sale. If i have [1,2,3,4,5,4,5,6,7,8,9] then i have two runs, but the end/beginning gap is less than two, so the buy/sell are ignored, and it would still give buy at 1 sell at 9. I don't think i explained it well before.

Exactly. It doesn't make it very complicated though, you just need to split the list into rises and falls, and then look at the size of each. Disregard anything less than two, and the remaining start and end indices are the optimal buy/sell points.

I think in the specific problem he's looking at, buying and selling is only considered at the end of runs. specifically runs larger than the transaction fee.
