Ah, sorry I misinterpreted your plots to have the order of the polynomials on the X-axis and thus a larger range in N. I guess the explanation by DaveP is the best one then.

Yes, definitely. This does not depend on the OS, but rather on the compiler you are using. If the compiler provides it, you are good to go. According to your makefile, you are using gfortran, which supports it since 2007: gcc.gnu.org/wiki/Fortran2003Bind_C.

No idea, why the second run of version A should work, but if you use any optimisation flags, the compiler might do something overly aggressive resulting in bad code. With prints and the likes, these optimizations might not be possible for the compiler anymore. If this is the case, you can try to identify the code part, where the optimizations produce wrong code, and optimize it yourself, helping the compiler and avoiding the bad code generation.

In addition to the suggestion on using valgrind, gfortran 4.8 now supports the address sanitizer, which you might activate by -fsanitize=address and might also help you to find memory issues.
