Sorry for not giving ViewPoint and ViewVertical, I wanted the users to see that the problem is a bit dependent on orientation. As mentioned in my other comment, I can’t accept as solution to change the cone radius because the graphic has to be precise (if the endpoint is set to 0, the line has to be on the cone). So I have tried to increase the number of PlotPoints and to give the command PerformanceGoal→"Quality" . The first improved the problem just a bit. Unfortunately I am running out of ideas...

I fear you have misunderstood me. I was speaking of the endpoint, not the start point! Try to use testLine=Line[{{0.97radius[theta,totalLength],0,totalLength},{0,0,0}},VertexColors→{Orange,Orange}]; and you will see that this line is not on the cone (although the start point is slightly less than one radius distance).

I am sorry, I can’t accept this answer because changing the cone radius etc. is cheating in my opinion. My start point of the line has to be on the surface of the cone because I have to make a precise graphic! If I use your suggestion and set the endpoint of the line to e.g. 0, then the line wouldn’t be any longer on the surface (but in this case it has to be on the surface). Since I have to plot several lines with several endpoints (also enpoint 0) in one graphic, everybody would then recognize that I am doing something wrong with the plot (that I am cheating).

Wow, I liked your old answer much, but the new, edited answer is really impressive! I also recognized that most of my arrays are very sparse, but I was not able to make use of this because my programming skills are very low at the moment. Therefore, I also have/had some problems to understand your old/new complex solution (Thanks a lot for the comments, they are really helpful!). But I am very happy that it works very fine for computers with little RAM (I think Mathematica should replement their Import function for Tables with your solutions).

@Szabolcs I have to admit that I tried to interpolate my slightly irregular data with mathematica, but I failed there and cannot find useful info on the web. The odd thing is, I can plot my data for example with ListPlot3D[data,InterpolationOrder>1] and get surfaces which are interpolating my data well. Now I would be interested in the interpolated values which are not exactly at the measured points (to plot e.g. cross sections). Do you know how to do this without spending much work again (or a webpage with good information)? Or do you think that this question is good enough for this forum?

@Szabolcs Ok, that is a good question. Well, first I was interested if there is a solution in general. Secondly, as I denoted in my email, I tried to find a way to extract my real values in special regions of interest out of my list with an easy method (because out of some physical reasons I sometimes may only use them). Therefore, I still think/hope that my question is useful, although it was awful lot of work for you. Perhaps others can profit by our answer one day too and appreciate your work as much as I do.

@Szabolcs Thank you for your solution and the explanations. They are really fine! It is just a bit difficult for me to understand all details because your code is far above my programming skills. But anyway, I got the idea and understand much of the solution! And it seems that I can adapt your solution well to my real data. Thank you again!

@belisarius First, I want to find a general way to solve my problem (just filling the coordinates into a matrix). Secondly, if I have in every cell of my matrix/tensor the x,y,z values, then I can plot my zvalues with ReliefImage or MatrixPlot and not anymore with ListDensityPlot (as much as I know, with ListDensityPlot my zvalues are interpolated on a grid. This is something I do not want to have all the time). Thirdly, I am sometimes interested in special regions of interest in my data/plot. Thanks to the great help of forum users, I can easily extract them if I can produce a ReliefImage.

@Szabolcs Thanks a lot for the email reply and your answer here! Your suggestion is great! After some hours of sleep I will try to understand it better ;) Thanks also for the hint with the upload. I did not know this page. I edited my question again and provide the link to a file with my x and ycoordinates now. So other user can use them in the case they want to try applying yours or others suggestion.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry for the capital letter in list, I used it to make it better readable but did not think at the conflict problem (I edited). Well, I would love to provide the dataset here but I do not know how to upload a file... Sorry! Therefore, I hope it is ok, when I am sending a file to your email address. Yes, the matrix indices should approximately correspond to x and y. But my aim is to have (x,y,z) in each matrix element, I do not want to use interpolation of my values.
