I have an application running on JBoss AS 4.2.3 and am trying to migrate this to JBoss AS 7.0.2. I am also upgrading seam from 2.1.1 to 2.2.2. I have resolved a few of the class not found exceptions, but I am stuck on

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.hibernate.validator.ClassValidator

My full stack trace is below.

I'm not very clear on the new class loader in AS 7. Does Hibernate 4 work with seam 2.2.2? I have tried specifying the exports in jboss-deployment-structure.xml to use org.hibernate and org.hibernate.validator. However, when I look in the jars in these locations, I do not see the ClassValidator class...

I have also tried adding hibernate 3 jars to the EAR/lib and specifying them in the manifest, but that does not change anything. I see that hibernate 3 hibernate-validator.jar does contain the classValidator class, but it still doesn't find it.

UPDATE I also tried hibernate-validator-legacy-4.0.2.GA.jar

  • Strange, I just got it to work with Hibernate 4 and having hibernate-validator 3.1.0.GA in the deployment (no Hibernate 3 JARs) to satisfy Seam 2's hard dependency on hibernate-validator. At least this works for my test HTTP servlet. BTW I found JBoss AS 7.0.1 to be the stablest.

Classloading model changed in JBoss 7. It hides much stuff that's not explicitly declared.

1 - I solve this problem by declare module in jboss7.1.1 2 - modify MANIFEST.MF file in lib folder

in \jboss-as-7.1.1.Final\modules\ folder create this folders :

\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final\modules**org\hibernate\validator\main**

then I copy file hibernate-validator-4.2.0.Final.jar into the folder of main\

then I create file module.xml in main folder and modify that by bellow code :

Now, your module created in jboss modules.

look at this line :

you must use org.hibernate.validator in Dependencies part in your MANIFEST.MF file like bellow :

then your problem must be pass :D

if you get any message of ClassNotFoundException , you must declare jboss module and use name of that in your MANIFEST.MF file .

putting this in persistence.xml worked for me on this error: 

property name="javax.persistence.validation.mode" value="none"
