We are seeking a R&D Computer Scientist to perform work as an algorithm developer. The successful applicant should have experience in machine learning, pattern recognition and classification approaches, and associated algorithm development as applied to remote sensing applications.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Analyze data from sensor data collections to determine potential algorithmic approaches that would allow information to be extracted from the data.
- Develop algorithms that will process live sensor data in real time.
- Implement algorithms in software with a team of people designing a sensor system.
Occasional travel may be required for this position.
- Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant science or engineering field.
- Experience with C programming language and able to perform rigorous analysis with large volumes of sensor data.
- Knowledge and experience in programming languages such as MATLAB and C++.
- Familiarity with image and signal processing algorithms, machine learning implementations, information theory, and real-time implementation of algorithms.
- Experience with radar phenomenology, applied statistics and mathematics, and the Linux operating system is also desired.
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.

The Sensor Exploitation Applications Department develops and implements pattern recognition approaches called Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithms that detect, identify, and classify objects of interest. Department 5448 applies these techniques to a variety of data sources, including Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery, High Range Resolution (HRR) radar, optical and long-wave Infrared imagery, and acoustic data.
