Currently only 1 out of 4 cancer treatment prolongs life, yet we spend $100 billion on drugs and 8 million patients die every year from the disease. Job Description/ Why We’re Hiring:
We are looking for a highly motivated bioinformatician, computational biologist or a genomics-savy software engineer who is passionate about curing cancer and wants to play a key role in building our life saving bio/clinical informatics platform. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic programmer with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of molecular biology and genomics. You’ll be working alongside some amazing pioneers in oncology; bench scientists, engineers and software developers, contributing to the cutting edge of cancer research and personalized medicine.
We are only accepting candidates from the greater Boston area. The position will require being regularly present at Genomic Expression headquarters in Beverly, MA, but partial telecommuting from Boston Cambridge and neighboring cities may be possible.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Expertise:
- BSc or Masters Degree in Biological Sciences, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering or Computer Science with a minor in Biology
- Minimum of 5 years of computer programming experience (can be self taught)
- Experience performing diverse types of data analysis and interpreting the results within a biological context
- Solid programming abilities in R or Python
- Experience with Linux Operating System, Windows Operating system, and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) and shell scripting
- Experience creating and maintaining relational databases using SQL/MySQL/Postgres
- Experience building and/or maintaining relational databases
- Coursework in molecular biology, genomics and/or bioinformatics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Other Highly Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Expertise:
- One or more years of professional experience
- Experience analyzing next generation sequencing data
- Experience with AWS or other cloud computing environment
- Proficiency in additional programming languages beyond R and Python
- Ability to create data visualizations, dashboards, reports and user interfaces (such as with R Markdown and R Shiny)
- Experience with XML databases
- Knowledge of text mining and other AI technologies
