As one of our team of industry-leading experts, you'll be involved in the design, development and re-engineering of some of the world's most innovative technology.
Whether you’re developing software or engineering hardware, you’ll be expected to produce high-quality sustainable output, communicate effectively with others, assess information, make decisions and identify errors.
We use various types of code to achieve our objectives. We primarily work in Java, C, C++, C#, and .net. But we also use Perl, scripting and web technologies, cloud technologies and Hadoop.
Skills & requirements
Naturally you’ll already have a creative approach to problem solving but you’ll also need to have a 2:2 or above in a relevant degree, e.g. Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, Electronics, Computational Linguistics.
Alternatively you’ll need knowledge and experience in either programming, computers and computer networks, operating systems, or telecommunication systems. But to really succeed at GCHQ you’ll need to have a willingness to learn new skills throughout your career.
About the company
At GCHQ we tackle some of the most complex challenges in Engineering and Software Development. At one end of the spectrum are business-critical enhancements or new systems that have to go live in hours in response to major world events. At the other are systems with extremely challenging attributes of scale, performance, resilience and complexity that can only be released after thorough testing.
