Software Engineer

Despite the current circumstances we are still recruiting for roles. In compliance with UK Government advice relating to COVID-19 this role will be remotely based in line with our current workforce and we will supply you with the tools and technologies to enable you to do so. Similarly all interviews will be conducted by google hangouts or equivalent video conferring technologies.

About Technology at Which?

Our information Security, Technical Programme & Architecture and Engineering teams use leading technologies and tools – from AWS and Docker to Kotlin, JavaScript, React.js and Salesforce – along with Agile working practices, to solve the technical challenges that enable Which? to champion consumers as a powerful digital force.

About the role

• You'll work as part of a squad alongside UX Designers, Developers and QA to prototype new ideas and build great products that provide a great online experience for everyone who visits sites like Which.co.uk, Which? Trusted Traders and Which? Consumer Rights.
• You'll collaborate with Senior Developers and Tech Leads to analyse requirements and define technical approach and solutions
• You'll Identify problematic code and technical debt, offer solutions where possible and provide advice and guidance to other developers

Whilst you will be aligned to a squad, you'll also be an integral member of our dedicated and friendly Engineering team. The Engineering team is currently 27 strong and growing as we scale up our in-house expertise to meet the challenge. We are a friendly and supportive team, and sharing knowledge and collaboration are core team values; we will expect you to contribute your own ideas, expertise and process improvements at all stages of the software development lifecycle. Testing and peer review are baked into how we work, and we actively support mentoring and pair programming.

What we'll need from you

• You'll be an excellent developer with a flair for creating stand out user experiences. Naturally, we'll need you to have great JavaScript, React, CSS/SASS and HTML5 skills, and you'll certainly be familiar with or have a desire to learn Node.js and JavaScript testing frameworks.
• You'll enjoy working collaboratively with those around you, and you will take pride in sharing your knowledge and developing fellow team members.
• You'll demonstrate an eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude, and would be keen to explore your projects, Github activity and contributions.
