Working At WGU

Working in WGU's EdTech team allows individuals to drive outcomes to facilitate the student journey by using scalable technology solutions built in a collaborative, highly available modern architecture utilizing the AWS platform.

We strive for these goals by putting into practice well-known engineering patterns such as: Domain Driven Design, Service Oriented Architecture, and Event Driven Architecture. We also encourage our engineers to use diagramming and utilize SOLID principles in application design to promote better testing and ability to adapt and evolve. We understand that writing software is a team effort, and as a member of our team we will invest in you and provide training that promotes growth in your role. This keeps us up to date with changing technology and best practices throughout the industry.

What We Look For

WGU is innovative at its core, meaning that it’s crucial to have a curious nature and an insatiable drive to understand not just what something does, but how and why. A team member should be motivated to keep abreast of new vendors, technologies, and industry trends. They should also have a discerning and critical ability, being able to speak to the pros and cons of a given solution with respect to engineering, architectural, and security best practices, as well as potential impacts to enterprise complexity and risk. Above all else, however, the team member should always be able to speak to the advantages/disadvantages and risk a technology can bring to the student experience. After all, in the end, the goal is the students!
