The Office of the Clerk for U.S. House of Representatives is seeking a dynamic and innovative Senior Software Engineer (Backend Web Developer) to join a development team that is dedicated to building and enhancing systems critical to legislative operations, used by Members of Congress, Committees, other internal agencies and the public. This position will focus on designing and developing intuitive and reliable services, as well as assist with system planning, analysis and data modeling efforts.
Works in a small work station in an office environment without an expectation of privacy where noise levels are usually moderate. As an experienced Senior Software Engineer, the applicant must have the temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant and professional manner. The applicant must also be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of responsibilities.
Skills & requirements
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, and equivalent work experience is preferred.
• Seven or more years of experience building backend services and working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
• Strong knowledge and experience developing RESTful APIs (web services) with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
• A strong desire to research and study new emerging technologies for consideration in future and ongoing development efforts.
• Experience with C# (.NET) using MVC is preferred, but other open source experience and preferences will be taken under consideration.
• Experience with Search Engine development and implementation using Elastic search, SOLR and/or Microsoft Search Services.
• Other technologies and experiences of interest to our team:
o Cloud Services (ex. Azure and AWS).
o NoSQL experience using MongoDB, CouchDB and/or DocumentDB.
o Content Management Systems (CMS) development and implementation,
o Unit test automation as well as load/performance testing for websites and services.
